S. John Campanie, Esq. is the former Madison County Attorney and has been a principal in the Central New York law firm of Campanie & Wayland-Smith PLLC since its formation in 2000. He was the Madison County Attorney from 1987 to December 31, 2016, where he served as the chief civil legal officer and advisor to the County and its numerous departments and agencies, and is the City Attorney for the City of Sherrill serving in that capacity since 2001.

At Campanie & Wayland-Smith, he has concentrated his practice in business, commercial, and municipal law, as well as in estate planning and administration. He has devoted a substantial part of his practice to the successful defense of Native American land claims in New York.  His career has included managing the world-wide export and military divisions of the world’s largest manufacturer of flatware, covering exports to 50+ countries.
